Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurants, one of the nation’s leading casual dining restaurant brands, today announced the addition of Matthew Revord as Chief People and Legal Officer. Matt brings to Cooper’s Hawk a broad and diverse set of knowledge and skills gained across a 35-year career in legal, people, and business. In his new role, he is charged with helping execute a well-defined company culture through all levels of the organization – a pivotal foundational value of the Cooper’s Hawk brand.

Matt will manage the strategy and processes related to building and retaining an exceptional team and optimizing people-centered activities including hiring, training, professional development and performance. As Chief Legal Officer, he will support all legal needs to help minimize risk and address challenges. 

Most recently, Matt was Chief Legal Officer & Secretary, as well as Chief People Officer and Chief Compliance Officer, for Potbelly Sandwich Works. He was responsible for all Human Resources matters, including culture, talent acquisition, payroll, field human resources, and compensation & benefits. He successfully enhanced company culture and processes to attract, grow and retain great talent. His Chief Legal Officer responsibilities included corporate governance, public company securities filings, government affairs, litigation, intellectual property, mergers & acquisitions, financings, compliance, ethics, employment disputes, and contracts.  

Prior to that, Matt was Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, for Brunswick Corporation. Earlier in his career, Matt was Vice President, Associate General Counsel for True North Communications; and Senior

Counsel at Sears, Roebuck & Co.  Matt gained foundational legal experience in his 7 years at Kirkland & Ellis, a law firm based in Chicago. He earned a Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, at the University of Illinois College of Law and a Bachelor of Arts at Notre Dame, where he is involved with the Notre Dame IDEA (Innovation, De-Risking and Enterprise Acceleration) Center, which is an entrepreneurial incubator for new business development out of research at the University.
