Throughout the month of April, millions of consumers took to social media to ask the question #whomademyclothes, helping ignite a global conversation about supply chain transparency.
Born from the Rana Plaza collapse in Bangladesh in 2013, Fashion Revolution launched a movement with a mission of changing the way clothes are made, sourced and consumed. Gildan was among the fashion and apparel brands that responded to the Fashion Revolutions’ annual “Who Made My Clothes” campaign. Unlike many clothing brands, Gildan manufactures the vast majority of their products in their own factories, primarily located in the United States, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Bangladesh, where they control almost every step in the process, from fiber to finished garment.
Thanks to this unique business model, Gildan has visibility across their whole supply chain which allows them to implement industry-leading labour and environmental practices. Gildan is one of the few apparel manufacturers that does not shy away from giving consumers a first-hand introduction of the employees in their factories. During this year’s campaign, Gildan answered Fashion Revolution’s call-to-action for greater transparency by sharing pictures of their workers on social media and their Genuine Responsibility website, and invited consumers to browse their interactive map presenting information on their facilities and dedicated contractors.
