Everyone is familiar with the concept of marital weight gain, but when a couple nearly doubles in size between the wedding and the 10th anniversary, they need an intervention as dramatic as a lightning strike. It is not a diet book, but rather, a motivational l memoir with a bit of how-to sprinkled in. It is structured in alternating first-person chapters as the Smiths describe their shared experience from two perspectives.

Kim Smith says, “We wrote this book because we’d nearly given up hope that we would ever escape the trap of being obese. We thought restoring our health would require deprivation and struggle, but boy, are we grateful that we were wrong.”

Ryan and Kim Smith met in graduate school at the University of Maine in 2003. After a whirlwind courtship, they married and proceeded to eat their way through a tumultuous decade, gaining 200 pounds along the way. After finding intermittent fasting and losing the weight in a balanced, peaceful way, they decided to share their weight journey by writing their story. Ryan teaches high school English and Kim works in healthcare. Unbelievable Freedom is their first published book.
