Saylorsburg, United States - April 11, 2018 /PressCable/ —
J. Wilson Enterprises Inc., known by most as Wilson Slate, is providing free evaluations of roof damage and condition to home owners in northern Pennsylvania around the Lehigh Valley, the Poconos, and northwestern New Jersey.
Four late winter back to back storms including the most recent left many with over a foot of snow along with a previous Nor’easter that left many without power for up to a week in March. This was due to the high winds and heavy snow which brought a wave of destruction to much of the northeast. Falling trees and downed power lines damaged thousands of roofs on houses and commercial buildings. Among those affected, some of the structures had slate roofs.
The final cost due to storm damage in the Northeast has yet to be tallied but may well be in the millions of dollars. Tens of thousands of residences and businesses were without electrical power for up to a week while temperatures dipped well below freezing.
“The extent of roof damage may not be obvious until the spring rainy season,” says Jeff Wilson. “But you need to catch the problem before there is damage inside the house.” Wilson also notes that slate roofs can last hundreds of years but are still susceptible to normal wear from storm damage from falling objects.
Although Saylorsburg lies in an area historically known as the slate belt, much of the high quality roofing slate used in today’s storm damage repairs comes from New Hampshire and Canada. “We have lots of sources so we make every effort to match the existing slate as close as possible,” states Wilson. “Many times we can get it from the exact same quarry so it matches perfectly. In slate roofing, there are no short cuts.”
