(DGIwire) – What is the dirtiest place in the typical office? According to a study conducted by Kimberly-Clark Professional and reported by WebMD, it’s the sink faucet handles in the break room. The study researchers swabbed some 4,800 surfaces in office buildings—including manufacturing facilities, law firms, insurance companies, healthcare companies and call centers—and analyzed the results for contamination levels.
The study obtained the highest contamination levels for 75 percent of break room sink-faucet handles, 48 percent of microwave door handles, 27 percent of keyboards, 26 percent of refrigerator door handles, 23 percent of water fountain buttons and 21 percent of vending machine buttons.
“A wide range of public spaces—not just office buildings but also classrooms, cruise ships and hospitals—harbor fertile breeding grounds for a range of pathogens,” says Taly Dery, CEO of BetterAir. “Enviro-Biotics™ offer a cutting-edge approach to reducing the risk they pose.”
BetterAir’s Environmental Probiotics system is a patented technology designed to purify the air quality and surfaces in public spaces. The company’s probiotic strain can be dispensed inside an office or other public area either manually via spray bottle or via a powered purifier device. The BetterAir BA-1200 Commercial Air Duct Purifier is designed for spaces up to 25,000 square feet while the BetterAir BA-1800 Commercial Air Duct Purifier is designed for spaces up to 45,000 square feet.
BetterAir’s commercial units tap into existing HVAC systems and release billions of probiotics to purify and clean inside air ducts, which can serve as a vehicle for dispersing mold, allergens and harmful bacteria. The Environmental Protection Agency acknowledges that biological contaminants—including bacteria, molds, pollen and viruses—can be a contributing factor to “sick building syndrome,” a scenario in which building occupants experience acute health and comfort effects. Probiotics may be able to address this issue not only by purifying the air but also impacting specific objects and surfaces while reducing the resources that allergens and pathogens survive on.
Why are BetterAir’s “Enviro-Biotics™” useful? Traditional purifier sprays indiscriminately kill all bacteria, both harmful and beneficial—causing an imbalanced, sterile environment that could increase the risk of pathogens’ evolving resistance. In contrast, BetterAir’s natural, chemical-free and environmentally friendly spray provides a natural solution to battling “bad” bacteria: the probiotic consumes contaminant waste such as dust mite fecal matter, pollen, dead skin cells and pet dander, while maintaining the balance of essential bacteria in the environments where people live and work, reducing bad odors caused by bacteria.
“Workers in any environment should feel assured that the cleaning techniques being used are designed to maintain a balanced and healthy environment, and Enviro-Biotics ™ fit the bill perfectly,” Dery adds.
