Crude-oil futures top $71 a barrel, up fractionally in early trading, as the market reacts to American Petroleum Institute data showing an unexpected declines in crude and distillate inventories. The government's own figures on changes in petroleum stockpiles for last week will draw scrutiny later Wednesday morning.
